US Bank Cash Plus Card 5% Cash Back
If you are like me, you are probably always looking for a good card upgrade. As more cards get added to my pocket, it becomes more difficult to one-up my existing cards. That's why it was a pleasant surprise to stumble upon US Bank's Cash Plus Card and discover it's generous cash back benefits.
The reason why people (including myself) gravitate towards this card is because of its targeted category benefit which gives 5% cash back on up to two select categories and 2% cash back on up to 1 select category. Unlike the Discover it Cash Back Card and Chase Freedom Flex Card, there are a lot more categories available and they stay the same every quarter. This gives a lot more flexibility on getting the 5% cash back since you can just pick the category that best fits your needs each quarter. Below are the categories you can choose from.
5% Categories
- TV, Internet & Streaming Services
- Home Utilities
- Movie Theaters
- Fast Food
- Select Clothing Stores
- Gym/Fitness Centers
- Cell Phone Providers
- Electronics Stores
- Furniture Stores
- Department Stores
- Sporting Goods Stores
- Ground Transportation
2% Categories
- Grocery Stores
- Gas & EV Charging Stations
- Restaurants
The most interesting category for the US Bank Card is Home Utilities which is an uncommon category in the credit card world. In fact, this card usurps the Venmo Credit Card for best credit card for utility bills.
Another great thing about this card that many credit card go-ers will appreciate is there is a sign-up bonus (SUB). On the SUB side of things, $200 for a $1,000 is very good (high bonus for low spend).
Final Thoughts
I rate this card as pocket worthy. Everyone has utility bills (e.g., waste, water, and electricity and gas) so it already has a place in most peoples' wallets. If you are not already getting cash back on those bill payments, now may be the time to do so especially if you have high utility bill costs like myself. Just keep in mind there some utility providers my charge a fee for credit cards. So double check the math if it makes sense for you. Just know that in the world of credit cards, nothing really beats 5% cash back.
